BAKERS FARM OAST

BAKERS FARM OAST

CHALLENGE

Bakers Farm Oast, historically a working oast used to dry hops, was converted into two dwellings in the 80s. Oast houses are of specific historical interest and considered Local Heritage Assets. We were appointed to extend the dwelling and improve the internal flow of the home.

RESPONSE

Our client wanted a contemporary extension, which normally comes with limited complications however, as the property was located within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, we had to limit the amount of glazing so that the dark skies are maintained.

We created a contemporary form that referenced the surrounding agricultural vernacular and was welcomed by the Local Authority. The poor flow of the property was addressed as the kitchen was relocated to the rear to create a focal point when entering the house and maximise the scenic views.

We enjoyed working closely with our clients to ensure all the day-to-day issues were addressed, leaving them with a wonderful family home.
