Designed together.

Built together.

Admiring it together.

Warren House began as a traditional rural dwelling in East Sussex a collection of separate rooms, short on light, with little connection to the garden behind it.

The brief was to open it up for contemporary family living without losing the building’s original character.

Our response was a low, contemporary rear extension in timber and glazing, set in deliberate contrast to the existing house.

Inside, the plan was restructured around an open-plan kitchen, dining and seating space, with sliding doors drawing the garden into the heart of the home.

From the first questions to the finished view from the lawn, we were alongside the people who live here the whole way.

Before we draw anything, we ask one question that changes the whole project.

It happens in the Preparation stage, before a single line is drawn.

We collect and collate as much as we can living patterns, budget, timescales, the points where two people sharing a brief quietly want different things.

Sometimes that conversation reveals the project you thought you wanted isn’t the one your house can or should support.

Better to know that before anyone’s paid for a scheme.
The brief stage is where the project actually gets made.

Everything after it is craft.

Most home bars are an afterthought.

A cabinet in a corner.

This one started with the architecture.

A quiet door off the lounge opens into a room built for the end of the week.

Walnut panelling, joinery made for the space, integrated storage for wine and glassware, and lighting that sets the tone the moment you step in.

Every element was designed around how the room is actually used, with structure and finish considered together, from one brief.

That’s what happens when architecture and interior design sit under the same roof.

Most people think the architect’s job ends when planning is approved.

For some practices, it does.

The design is drawn, planning is won, the package goes to the builder, and the architect moves on.

We stay.

Through construction, our role is to make sure the design is built as intended and that the contract and regulations are met.

In practice that means site meetings, signing off invoices, checking a subcontractor’s material matches the spec, catching a dimension that’s off, solving problems as they come up.

It’s the quietest part of what we do.

Clients rarely see the moments each month where the work would have gone wrong without it.

They just get the house they were expecting and, as one put it, a calm, constant presence the whole way through.
