CHALLENGE

The Ridgeway project was centred around replacing a deteriorating conservatory which prevented a natural flow and visual connection between the family home and its mature garden setting. The existing house suffered from a lack of natural light, which was a key driver in the brief to create an open plans kitchen, living and dining arrangement.

RESPONSE

Once the conservatory was demolished, a new infill structure was constructed and clad in a contemporary material pallet of vertical timber cladding, white render and finished with a striking anthracite aluminium canopy. The canopy was specifically designed to limit solar gain in the summer and provide shelter when it rains.

The design enriches the experience of a day-to-day kitchen by linking it to the new living and dining space, filled with natural daylight and views of the garden.
