Claremont Avenue

Claremont Avenue

Brief

Our firm was commissioned to remodel, renovate, and significantly extend a 1950s property located in the heart of Royal Tunbridge Wells. When our client acquired the home, it was outdated and in need of comprehensive refurbishment. However, they envisioned transforming it into their ‘forever home’.

The client’s brief included the addition of three new bedrooms, a dedicated home office, a spacious open-plan kitchen, and a basement designed to include an entertainment area and a gym.

Response

Following a comprehensive feasibility study and pre-application phase, we developed a design that effectively doubled the internal floor area of the property, capitalizing on the site’s natural slope. The original 1950s brick façade was replaced with a sophisticated palette of stone cladding, zinc, and render, dramatically transforming the exterior appearance. The extension spans four floors, expanding the total floor area to 4,500 square feet.

The roof was redesigned to accommodate two bedrooms and a bathroom, creating a dedicated space for the children. The ground floor features a spacious open-plan kitchen, enhanced with expansive glazing to maximize natural light and provide panoramic 180-degree views of the surrounding garden. A semi-submerged lower ground floor was introduced, taking advantage of the site’s natural gradient, creating a secluded adult space that offers a retreat from the lively family environment.

We feel so incredibly fortunate that we chose to work with Coleman Anderson on our renovation project. They made the whole process such an enjoyable one. From initial drawings, to bringing our ideas to life, accommodating all of our ‘needs’ ‘must have’s’ ‘wants’ and ‘pleeeeease find a way’ requests. We couldn’t be happier with the end result and we pinch ourselves most days that we are now living in our forever dream home that they helped create. Transparency, honesty and integrity. It was such an enjoyable process we are almost tempted to do it again.
