Bullfinch Lane

Bullfinch Lane

Brief

The original property on Bullfinch Lane was a 1900s bungalow set on a generous plot in the heart of a bustling town. Our clients, first-time builders, purchased the bungalow with the goal of transforming it into their dream home, tailored to accommodate their growing family.

Their requirements included a minimum of five bedrooms, an open-plan living area, a separate playroom, a lounge, and all the amenities essential for a modern family home.

Response

We began by examining the site context and the surrounding architecture, conducting massing studies to substantiate the transition from a three-bedroom bungalow to a three-story detached home. Fortunately, the site was surrounded by larger residences, which made the Local Authority more receptive to the proposed increase in height and volume, despite some local opposition.

The design adopted a dual aesthetic: the front of the property harmonises with the existing street scene, while the rear incorporates extensive glazing and a contemporary façade, creating a striking contrast.

Coleman Anderson Architects helped us through a 18+ month process which involved demolishing a bungalow and starting a new house build from scratch. Stuart and the team were fantastic and we were delighted with the service we received. They designed a house which really fitted the brief, light and open with all the key things on our bucket. Appointed throughout the build process as contract administrator – completing inspections throughout the build process to quality check and address issues that cropped up through the build process was invaluable having never embarked on a project like this before.
