Under Mount
Brief
This project involved the design and delivery of a two-storey side extension to a family home, alongside internal alterations and refurbishment throughout the existing property. The extension was to accommodate a generous open-plan kitchen with associated utility, pantry and boot room, as well as a new master bedroom suite with en-suite, dressing room and private balcony positioned to capture the property’s far-reaching views.
Having begun working with the clients in early 2022, the brief developed to include a broader enhancement of both the internal living spaces and the external setting. Planning permission was secured in Summer 2022, with the ambition to create a cohesive and contemporary home tailored to modern family life.
Response
The extension introduces a suite of carefully arranged spaces that enhance both practicality and connection to the landscape. At ground floor level, the open-plan kitchen—featuring a bespoke Peter Alexander design—forms the focal point of the home, supported by a range of discreet ancillary spaces. Above, the master suite is oriented to take full advantage of elevated views, with a private balcony offering a quiet point of retreat.
Construction commenced in Summer 2023, with our involvement continuing on site through to completion in Summer 2024. The project extends into the garden, where a new swimming pool and adjoining patio create a natural extension of the internal living spaces, strengthening the relationship between house and setting.
