Great Footway

Great Footway

Brief

This mock-Georgian property in Great Footway had been in the same hands for many years, and was in dire need of a refresh, both in décor and the spatial arrangement. The layout, including a small existing kitchen extension, was disjointed, compartmentalised and dark, with no visual connection to the garden. The finishes were ‘of their time’ and not appropriate for modern living. The new owners bought the property with the intention of making it their forever home for their young family, and so the new design needed to create functional, flowing spaces that would ease their busy family life. Coleman Anderson were appointed to bring this vision into reality.

Response

Coleman Anderson’s response was to create a two-storey side extension and orangery-style rear extension, to be in keeping with the traditional style of the property. The existing layout was reconfigured alongside this, creating a grander entrance hallway that instantly had views to the garden through glass doors. The extension and existing house combined to create a free-flowing open plan kitchen, dining and living area, connected to a pantry and utility area, and a separate playroom. The design, and aesthetic considerations, aimed to bring in as much natural light as possible into the space to create a welcoming, functional space. Elsewhere in the house, a new children’s bedroom and en-suite was added, and the existing bathroom and bedrooms updated to suit modern living.
