Brief
Our clients, a young family with a busy lifestyle, engaged us to design a single-storey rear extension for their dated 1930s semi-detached house in Tonbridge. The objective was straightforward: extend and reconfigure the rear layout to create an open, free-flowing space with ample room and storage, allowing the entire family to enjoy the home together.
Response
The existing layout featured a separate kitchen and dining room, both of which were cluttered and lacked spatial efficiency, resulting in a cramped feeling at the rear of the house. The absence of both visual and physical connections to the compact yet serene garden further amplified this sense of confinement.
Our design for the extension aimed to blur the lines between indoor and outdoor spaces by incorporating elegant heritage-style doors, which facilitated seamless transitions. The new layout introduced a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area, complemented by a separate utility room. This configuration significantly increased storage capacity, providing the client with ample space to pursue her passion and growing baking business while simultaneously keeping an eye on the children.
Thanks so much Coleman Anderson, the dream team! Thanks so much to Beco Carpentry too who brought these designs to life and made the whole experience enjoyable.
