Our Approach

Our Approach

We understand that embarking on a project can feel daunting. That’s why we’ve honed our approach into ‘Five Steps to Finished’ which clearly defines and covers all aspects of your architectural project. You can discover more about it below, along with some frequently asked questions (FAQs).

Five Steps To Finished

1. PREPARATION

1. PREPARATION

Before putting pen to paper, we collect and collate as much information as we can. We will ask you important questions to form a detailed architectural brief, including detail around living patterns, the project budget and timescales. We arrange all of the necessary surveys, such as measured survey, ecology and services, so that we can begin the design stage fully informed.

2. DESIGN

2. DESIGN

Considered design involves research, creativity, and experimentation. We begin by generating initial concepts and providing multiple architectural and interior design options. It is then through creative thinking, problem-solving and client collaboration that we refine and develop the proposals into a detailed final design.

3. PLANNING

3. PLANNING

The formation of a planning application often requires multiple consultants, of which we have a large and trusted network we rely on. Once the design is finalised and the relevant consultants have provided their reports, we will apply to the Local authority.

4. TECHNICAL

4. TECHNICAL

The technical design and procurement process is the most comprehensive and lengthy phase of any architectural project. Our technical design packages are meticulous, coordinated, and precisely tailored to each project to allow accurate comparative tendering.

5. CONSTRUCTION

5. CONSTRUCTION

Our role during construction is to ensure our design is implemented as we intended and that the contract documents and regulations are adhered to. Following the appointment of a main contractor, we work alongside the client for the duration of the build.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • We are an RIBA Chartered Practice, providing our clients with a holistic professional service offering architecture, interior design and landscape design.

  • We primarily work within the South East, and typically our projects have a budget of £250,000 upwards. However, we work on smaller projects where the architecture and build standards are expected to be high.

  • We are a studio-based practice with a values-driven approach to architectural design. We ask our clients to grant us creative freedom to deliver their projects.

  • We propose a ‘fixed fee’ which is based on specific resource requirements and tailored to suit the complexity of the project. We prefer this method over a ‘percentage of the contract’ as it provides our clients with certainty on cost, which helps when budgeting for the project.

  • This question is often asked and is difficult to answer with 100% accuracy as every project is different, and prices can fluctuate. We advise clients to budget around £3,000-£4,000 per m2 for a bespoke architectural design.

  • We usually recommend an allowance of up to 12 months for the Planning, Technical and Tender work stages. The construction stage varies depending on the project however, you should allow between 6 -8 months for a typical two storey extension and 12 months for a new build home.

  • We prefer to work with people we have a professional relationship with; however, we frequently work with client-chosen designers and contractors.

  • Yes, we are happy to provide you with details of our previous clients who have agreed to share their experiences.

  • From the moment we start working with you, we use our expertise in both interior design and architecture to create a layout for your home that is truly unique and considered. This approach yields an integrated response to your aspirations and an aesthetic reflecting the architecture’s vision.

  • Our interiors, like our architecture, pride themselves on craft, attention to detail and contemporary design. Our style is influenced by our clients and the ambitions of how they want to live their lives.

  • Yes, it is separate from our architectural fee. We provide a fixed fee based on specific resource requirements per work stage.

  • The myriad of options can be overwhelming, and as architects and designers, we listen to your brief and work with you to develop inspiration points that influence the design.

  • Not necessarily. We are happy to work on renovation projects. During our initial call or meeting, we will advise if your project needs architectural expertise. More often than not, even the smallest refurbishment requires architectural input.

  • Unlike many Interior Design firms, we do not procure products. We provide you with the design, and you, our client, manage the purchase, giving total flexibility on price, timescales and delivery.

  • In short, yes. We like to recommend and specify products from local companies we trust, but you are free to source products of a similar appearance or recommend your preferred brands.
