HAWTHORNE LODGE started life as a detached garage with a small one-bedroom annex above. Coleman Anderson were appointed to convert the building into a standalone dwelling, maximising the potential of the existing building by extending at both ground and first floor levels. The planning process had its challenges due to the position on the property within the Metropolitan Green Belt, which limited the scope of the development, however careful design provided 4 double bedrooms and open plan living with a great connection to the garden space.
The architectural style of the property was also driven by the constraints of the site, which limited height, volume and bulk of the development. The ‘boxy’ nature of the extended elements lends themselves towards a contemporary material pallet that was selected to compliment both the existing vernacular architecture and its contemporary additions.
The conversion took place over a 6 month period, and was delivered on time and on budget.
